Harmony Day

Harmony Day is celebrated on 21st march every year. It is not the festival of one religion, one cast,it is celebrated by everyone together. It promotes the benefits of cultural diversity. The main message of Harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs'. Its about community participation, inclusiveness, respect and sense of belonging for everyone. The main theme of Harmony Day is to give opportunity to share with others the importance of diversity in school, workplace and so on.
We also celebrated Harmony Day on 21st march with lots of enjoyment and happiness. We were told to bring some food from home. All friends brought some food .Some brought Chinese food, some brought Indian and so on. We all shared our food with each other and the food was amazing, its taste was so good.
Also our school had organised a small program for us where we had to sing National Anthem of Australia and others two songs. But if we want we can sing any song we like of our language. Marion had already taught us how to sing those songs so we had no problem how to sing it.
We enjoyed a lot that day and it is one of the memorable day of my life because I had never celebrated Harmony Day that nicely.

Migrant in Australia

Migrants like me may face many problems when first arrive to Australia. I am also new to Australia, and I am slowly adapting to Australian society. The main problem migrants face is language, if they are not from English speaking country. To work, study and participate in social activities requires good knowledge of English here in Australia. I am not facing that much problem with language since I learned English on my home country. But one of my friend who came to Australia before three year was facing very big problem with language. She took English language class and began to participate in social activities which helped her to develop her language. Now, she has improved her language and is working as a Chef in one restaurant.

Along with language, migrant face many other difficulties like cultural difference, life style difference, food difference and so on. These factors play significant role in migrant’s daily life. Migrant should slowly adapt to Australian culture and lifestyle which also helps them to work and built career in Australia.

On Tuesday

Last Tuesday I didn't go to the excursion because I wasn't feeling well. So I am going to write what i did at home that day.
I woke up at about 9:30 in the morning and then I took bath. After that I had a breakfast. Then I cleaned my home, washed clothes. My husband helped me as well. It was already 12:00 noon. It was time for my husband to go at work. I made him lunch and then he went to work.
After that I started making lunch for other members in the family and we all had it. I also watched movie and slept for a while, at the same time my friend rang me. She was telling about the excursion.
In the evening I went for shopping to buy groceries. After returning from there I cooked dinner and we all had it. After that all family members gathered in the living room and we all watched TV for a while and then I went to bed as I was feeling very tired.

TAFE LIBRARY

Students of TAFE can borrow from the TAFE library. We need to bring our TAFE card to join the library. We can borrow 6 print items(books and magazines) and 4 audio visuals, we can borrow books for 2 weeks and videos for 1 week. If we need them for longer, we need to renew the books. To renew books or other library items, we can ring to the library. We can renew items 2 times.
We can search the library catalogue from home. But there is no facility for returning books after hours in the TAFE library. The library makes photocopies or print from one of the library computersby using our TAFE card, we have to insert money on the TAFE card. It costs 20 cents for other students ant 10 cents for those who are Student Association Members. So the photocopying is not same for S.A members. The other services are how to find books in the library or to find any other information abot library.
The ESL resources for library members are exercise books, audio tapes, story books, dictionaries etc. We also can borrow books from other TAFE libraries. A good idea for ESL students is that they borrow story book, audiotapes and dictionaries.
